PREVENTING DROP OUT:

BROWNSVILLE BUILDERS STUDIO

Brownsville Community Justice Center

Youth identified how stress operates most potently in close family and friend social networks. Stressful situations were collaboratively mapped out across time and place and participants considered a series of techniques widely used to reduce stress including music, artistic practice, theatrical displays of discontent, and use of drugs and alcohol.  Various poetic phrases were identified and understood in terms of their resonance with these situations and the way they affect the mind and also the body in reducing stress.  These patterns were mapped out over time and tracked with average cortisol rates and other measures and compiled in a confidential study for the Center for Court Innovation.
